USE YOUR VOICE!
It is always emotional to make the transition from Summer to Autumn. It feels like Mother Nature doesn’t really have a handle on things any more, but then why should she be any different from the rest of us! The world seems to be getting more and more complicated. Getting older doesn’t help and seeing the list of friends and musicians who are disappearing from physical only compounds the malaise.
I have always believed that it was important to keep open a space of Unconditional Love no matter what was going on around me. I figured that was what I had to offer, to maintain—so that one more calm place existed in the world. Music has always been a large part of that space. And while I am not personally making a lot of music these days, I am still gifted with local live venues like Godfrey Daniels Coffee House in Bethlehem, PA and the Sellersville Theater in Sellersville, PA., and being able to witness the excellence of performers like Iain Mathews and No Grey Faith [in celebration of Sandy Denny] and Karla Bonoff and Nina Gerber. And, of course, Breezy Ridge keeps me in touch with musicians both near and far! So, I think I am blessed.
Today is October 13th and November 3rd, Election Day, is not far away. It is not my place to tell you where to place your vote. But it is my place to implore you to get out to vote and let your voice be heard. I was born just after the end of World War II and I remember seeing the broadcast of the nuclear explosion in 1952 when I was 6. I think that influenced the rest of my life and I have been lucky in that I have never experienced war first hand. But democracy demands that we participate and vote and choose or we will lose the right to choose and the right to live in the freedoms which have been earned at such an enormous cost. It is one thing to influence the election by voting. But the saddest thing is when it is the people who do not vote who influence the rest. Please exercise your right to vote and God bless us all.
