Introducing the REISSUE of the Model DA 12/11
Description
Our Professional DA 12/11 Model employs an exciting new style of construction which features an open back. This eliminates low frequency rumble giving the instrument an amazing projection and purity of sound. It also allows for close to the soundboard miking from underneath. You can even put a pickup directly on the underside of the soundboard for direct to the board recording! At around thirteen pounds, it also means that taking this dulcimer anywhere with you is not a problem!
The Res-o-lam soundboard is stressed to produce an equal amplitude and tone color on both the treble and bass bridges while the set-up density produces a volume decay of some thirteen seconds, giving an audible half-life of roughly three and one-half seconds. This provides adequate sustain for slow melodies while trimming annoying over-ringing on fast moving tunes. The soundboard is also coated to avoid shadows from the strings in bright light situations, such as a stage performance.
All instruments are supplied with one set of double sided maple hammers which are perfectly balanced for use with the Breezy Ridge® Hammer Dulcimer. They are just over 8 inches long with a leather strip on one side of the hammer’s head. This way, even in the middle of a piece, the player has the choice of the “piano”-softer sound from the side with the leather padding or can turn the hammers over for the more percussive sound of the wooden side. The handle of the hammers allows you to hold them securely without having to hold them tightly!
All instruments are also supplied with a tuning wrench, a “How-to-play” pamphlet by Mary Faith Rhoads and John Pearse and are warrantied for one year to the original owner. For further information about Hammer Dulcimers, including the tuning, etc., go to our Hammer Dulcimer Page.
