In a quiet moment at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt one year…about 12 years ago now…Woody Mann, Harry deJonge from Sacksioni Guitar Shop in Amsterdam, several other musicians and I sat down at a table. We wanted to design some picks which were not in common production…same old same old…and we succeeded. The “COWBOY” PICKS were born. Made from black horn [Water Buffalo Horn] for speed and durability, they offer up new and unique profiles to players. Each of them is appropriate for either right- or left-hand players.
MESA™ is a shorter, shallower pick with a wider gripping surface at the top. And it has the dimple to make it easier to hold.
CHAPARREL™ is a not as wide but has a longer throat, also with a dimple.
PALOMINO™ is the real hybrid…while it is closer to the shape of many picks, it has a deep dimple which is drilled to hold better and yet real mass to strike the strings.
HOLY COW™ Later on, I brought in some flat horn picks and the first words out of my mouth when I touched them were “Holy Cow” because I couldn’t believe how thin they were! Only 1mm!! It seems like the name stuck!
